August 3rd marked a memorable day for people commonly called "trailer
trash." It was a chance for the masses to come together and be proud of
their trashy heritage. I'm talking about the Bubbapalooza festival held at one of my favorite places, Flea World. Yes, there was nearly twelve
hundred of my fellow trailer trasholians who headed to this mecca of great bargains to participate in contests for free prizes and to see our favorite radio counterparts from Real Radio 104.1's Russ and Bo Show, Bubba and Savanna, sing their popular hits.

Me and my friend Eula Jean arrived early so we could get a little shopping done before the show (I got three "I Love Florida" t-shirts for five dollars and a ten-pound bag of banana chips for three). At 11 a.m. we all crowded around the stage and waited for Bubba to come out as the
familiar smell of stale beer and body odor got stronger in the hot sun.
Finally, M.C. Russ Rollins stepped onto the stage followed by Bubba in all his redneck glory. With his black cowboy hat and boots, black leather vest, big "B" belt buckle, and dip in cheek, Bubba began to play "Great Balls of Fire" on the piano. Finally, the Sexy Savanna arrived, and they did their duet "We Are Trailer Trash." |

In between the singing, there was the Belching, Biggest Beer-Belly,
Corn-eating, Best Tattoo, and Miss Trailer Trash contests. The Corn-eating contest was my favorite. All of the contestants had to be missing at least one tooth. I tried to get Eula Jean to go up and do
it, but she didn't want to take her dentures out. The guy who won was
missing six teeth. It was messy, but it was great to watch the experts at work.
All in all, it was a well-spent two hours (plus I got to do more shopping after). Bubbapalooza proved to people in the Orlando area that downtown's not the only place you can go to get some culture. I can't wait 'til next year! |
