In 1997, recording artist Sarah McLachlan's vision of an event to celebrate women in music became a reality. Lilith Fair, an all-women music festival, became the top-grossing concert tour of 1997. Due to the overwhelming success of the tour, McLachlan has announced that Lilith Fair will once again hit the road, promising more performers, more shows, and more cities, this year including Orlando. Artists already confirmed to join McLachlan on this year's tour include Natalie Merchant, Erykah Badu, Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Shawn Colvin, Bonnie Raitt, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Victoria Williams, Paula Cole, Beth Orton, Queen Latifah, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls and Sinead O'Connor, although not all artists play all dates.

The tour will kick off June 19 in Portland, Oregon and run through August 31. The Orlando date has been scheduled as Monday, July 27th at the Central Florida Fairgrounds starting at 2:00pm. Tickets will go on sale May 16th for $36 and are expected to sell out quickly. Scheduled to appear here in Orlando are Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, Queen Latifah, Meredith Brooks, Rebekah, Holly Cole, Ebba Forsberg as well as three more artists yet to be announced. The only other Florida show will be held one day earlier, on July 26th, at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach.

As with last year's tour, Lilith Fair has made a commitment to continue its regional and national charitable efforts. In '97 the festival raised over $700,000 for national and local charities. The tour has already announced that $1 of every ticket sold for the 1998 Lilith Fair will be donated to a local charity or women's group in each market visited.
