Even mother nature herself couldn't stop the melodic mayhem I witnessed Sat., Oct. 11 in the backyard of the Go Lounge, which featured 15 bands from the creamiest batch of our local talent for the cause of Habitat for Humanity.
The day consisted of a cornucopia of people, even a few toddlers, either gyrating their way to the groove or taking part in the first annual Go Lounge Local Music festival. I arrived right after Van Gogh's Ear to the first downbeat of Umoja (a personal favorite - the word Umoja is Swahili for Unity) exploding with their infamous African rhythms and colorful positive message. The spectrum thereafter was vast and deep: the sixties, folksy
feeling of Joseph Martens, back to a half hour of Umoja, then on to the up-tempo garage swing of Blue Meridian. And yes, folks, then back to Umoja in a chanting crescendo.
Next was the raw high energy rap of the Nature Kids. Despite some sound trouble coupled with a light sprinkle, Gargamel charged back with a vengeance. Soothing the onslaught of O-town's rock, in flowed Fluid (another favorite of mine).
Night had fallen but not the groove with the Tarantula surfer dudes taking us right down the pipe line, swinging us into the avant garde of Obliterati and easing us into the Jamaican colors of Bug Head. Winding up again was Weed Eater. My Friend Steve showed up right before the boys of Kow hit us heavy. MT Minds were banging sounds to the stars! Finally, we were cast into early morning by Slowly Rubbings acoustic jazz. That, my friends, is where my heart lies. Thanks to all for making this event come off as smoothly as it did.
