In 1877, a horse owner hired Eadward Muybridge to settle a bet as to whether or not a galloping horse had a foot on the ground at all times... Using a multiple-camera sequential set up, Muybridge was able to capture pictures of a horse at gallop and developed the ancestors of modern day motion picture technology...
