The Slant was published from early 1997 through mid 1998. Although we have stopped publishing, we have archived here a great collection of community contributed articles and opinion pieces.
So what was The Slant anyway? The term "community publishing" begins to give
an idea, but "publishing" comes with a lot of baggage. The Slant turned the
usual model of publishing upside down. We didn't decide what the community
should read about; instead, we offered a space that empowered the community to
interact and be heard through a variety of ways, including submitted
articles and commentary.
The fact that The Slant's content came mainly from everyday people instead
of professional journalists made us a little different. The tone goes from
being that of an "authority" - who the average person needs to form an
opinion - to an "informed peer", or someone who has knowledge and
enthusiasm for a subject and wants to share it with others in the community
(who can form their own opinions).
